Mountain Arts Program
The Mountain Arts Program (MAP) consists of North Carolina artists in residencies in McDowell County elementary schools for one week and supplemental art instruction for junior high and high school art classes. Students are also treated to performing arts programming at East McDowell Junior High School auditorium; The NC Symphony in 2010, Opera Carolina in 2012, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana in 2013, John Brown Jazz Band in 2014, and performances by other professional touring companies.
During the residencies students learn many mediums and disciplines from talented artists from across the state including storytelling, fiber and paper arts, folk music, creative dramatics, writing, poetry, drawing, painting, sculpture, origami, and harmonica.
